Zig Rig

Zig Rig Foam

By far the best time to catch carp with the zig rig is in the springtime as the waters are beginning to warm and the carp are becoming active. At this time of year, carp will, at certain times of the day move through or even hold in various depths. You must try to find the optimum depth. It may be half depth, it may be more. On hot sunny days when the carp don't seem to be feeding. A zig rig can often bring bonus fish when chances seem slim at best. Be subtle in your presentation, a fluorocarbon hooklength is best as this is the least visible carp line. A small hook with a short hair and bait is best.

The lead set-up is very simple. It comprises a large swivel lead attached to the line using a safety clip. A swivel joins the mainline to the hooklength From the swivel use a small length of tubing which will help to prevent tangles. Obviously you need a buoyant bait and pop-ups fit the bill. Alternatively try floating pellets or even black packaging foam. If you want different colours then go to wilkinsons and have a look for their bath letters in the kids section there's loads of foam letters in bright colours for £2.50
